Weekly NJAC Honors Claimed by Five Rowan Student-Athletes

PITMAN, NJ -- Five Rowan student-athletes picked up honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference announced on Monday.

Jordan McChesney was named the NJAC Women's Swimmer of the Week with teammate Ella Pennington capturing the NJAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the Week.

Ny'emah Middleton claimed the NJAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week honor.

In indoor track & field, Gabriella Pagano was awarded the NJAC Women's Rookie of the Week and Kwaku Nkrumah the NJAC Men's Rookie of the Week.

McChesney took home three individual events; the 50 free (24.85), 100 free (53.48), and 200 free (1:57.14) and was part of the 200 free relay in the team's final dual meet on Saturday at Merchant Marine

Pennington won the 200 back (2:05.66) and tied for first in the 100 back (59.42).

Middleton went for a team-high and season-high 19 points off the bench to help Rowan to a big road win at Kean on Saturday. The rookie was 6-of-10 shooting (with two three-pointers) and added four boards, three steals, two assists, and a block to put the Profs in a tie for first place in the NJAC.

Pagano ran a season-best and #3 NJAC time in the 800 meters (2:23.44) and was part of the 4x800 relay team (9:51.26) that finished second at the Metropolitan (METS) Championships on Friday up at Ocean Breeze.

Mkmurah won the 60 meter hurdles in a season-best time of 8.25 at the METS on Friday for the second-fastest time in the NJAC this season.

The women's swimming team (5-3, 4-1 NJAC) will compete in the METS Championship starting on Thursday, February 16 through the Sunday, the 19th held at Rutgers University. The women's basketball team (15-7, 11-4 NJAC), currently riding a seven-game win streak, plays at New Jersey City on Wednesday and home to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday looking to solidify one of the two top playoff seeds. Both the men's and women's indoor track & field teams will see action this weekend in three meets: at Ocean Breeze for the FastTrack National Invitational, at Boston University for the Valentine Invitational, and at the Alvernia University Plex Shootout.
