Atiya Named the ABCA/Rawlings Region Pitcher of the Year; Murphy and Atiya Named All-Region First Team and Schooley Chosen to Third Team

GREENSBORO, NC –  Rowan junior Eli Atiya has been chosen as the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region Pitcher of the Year, as voted on by the members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. Atiya was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 4 First Team, along with Profs' rightfielder Ryan Murphy, while third baseman Anthony Schooley was chosen to the All-Region Third Team.
 
Atiya was also honored this season as the NJAC Co-Pitcher of the Year and as the D3baseball.com Region 4 Pitcher of the Year. The lefthander had also been named to the NJAC All-Conference First Team for the second year in a row.
 
Atiya led the Profs, going 8-1, recording 69 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched. Owning an ERA of 2.38 in 12 starts, opponents batted just .223 against him. He threw one complete game this season, a 16-0 shutout of NJAC champion William Paterson, in which he struck out a career-high 11 batters.
 
Murphy was named to the 2022 D3baseball.com All-Region First Team and was also an NJAC All-Conference First Team honoree for the second consecutive year.
 
The junior led the Profs' offense as he hit .380 and recorded new career-highs of 52 runs, 70 hits, 51 RBI, 117 total bases and five triples, along with a slugging percentage of .636. He also tied for the team lead with nine home runs while adding 10 doubles.
 
In his first season at Rowan, Schooley was among the Profs' leading hitters all season. He batted .372 and hit a team-high 20 doubles, while also scoring 39 runs and driving in 39. A sophomore, he registered a slugging percentage of .547 and had at least one base hit in all but seven games.  
 
Rowan, ranked 10th in the nation, won the NCAA Annville Regional title and ended the season in the NCAA Super Regionals. The Profs went 33-10 on the year for the third 30-plus win season under head coach Mike Dickson and were the NJAC regular-season champions with a 16-2 record.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-America teams will be announced on Thursday, June 2. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 22.
