Joey Bogart and
Mason Dorsey had four hits each as #6 Rowan rolled to a 29-11 win over Rutgers-Camden (14-13; 6-2) in an NJAC baseball marathon, which was called in the middle of the eighth due to darkness. The Profs set a new school record for runs in a game while completing the sweep of the Scarlet Raptors to improve to 19-3 and 7-1 in the conference.
Additionally, the Profs set a new Rowan for combined runs by both teams (40). With 25 hits, the Profs fell just two hits short of the record for hits in a game (27).
The Profs put up some impressive numbers at the plate: Lamanteer (4-5, 4 runs, 2 RBI); Bogart (4-7, 3 runs, 3 RBI); Dorsey (4-5, 5 runs, 3 RBI);
Damon Suriani (3-3, 3 runs, 5 RBI),
Nick Struble (2-5, 3 runs, 4 RBI);
Evan McCoach (3 runs, 3 RBI); and
Luke Bickunas (3 runs).
Starter
Austin Kreyenhagen went 3.1 innings and
Jake Andrey (1-1) earned his first win as a Prof in the middle innings.
Mark Grubb and
Charlie Russell finished out the victory.
Rowan scored seven runs in the third inning without any extra base hits, getting seven hits and one Rutgers-Camden error. The Profs used RBI singles from Bogart, Suriani, Murphy and Lamanteer with Murphy and Lamanteer each getting two hits in the inning as the team batted around and took an 11-1 lead.
Rutgers-Camden answered with six runs in the fourth to cut Rowan's lead to 11-7. The Profs added two more in the bottom of that inning on a two-run double by Struble, going up 13-7.
The Scarlet Raptors added one in the fifth but then Rowan exploded for 11 runs in its half of the inning. Among the highlights was a three-run triple by Suriani and a two-run homer by Murphy, his second of the season.
Rowan didn't stop there, and added five more in the sixth to go up 29-8. Lamanteer and Dorsey hit RBI singles, Bogart notched an RBI double and pinch hitter
Brett Chiesa drove in a run with a single. Rutgers-Camden scored three more in the top of the seventh to provide the final margin.
The Profs will host Rutgers-Newark in a doubleheader on Saturday for "Senior Day". The ceremony will begin at 11:15 a.m. with first pitch slated for 11:30 a.m.
