PITMAN, NJ -- Rowan was well represented on the New Jersey Athletic Conference weekly awards as a total of eight student-athletes received honors.
Julia Patrone was named the NJAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week with teammate
Amber Powell earning the NJAC Rookie of the Week.
In women's swimming,
Jordan McChesney was selected as the NJAC Swimmer of the Week and
Ella Pennington was chosen the NJAC Rookie of the Week.
Joe Rucci earned the NJAC Men's Swimmer of the Week with teammate
Jimmy Kundrats picking up NJAC Rookie of the Week accolades.
NJAC Rookie of the Week honors also went to
Julianna Giordano (Women's Soccer) and
Johnny Troiano (Men's Soccer).
Patrone had two goals and one assist in the top-ranked Profs' 1-1 week. The sophomore scored the Profs' first goal, which tied the contest, in the last-second 3-2 loss to #3 Salisbury. She then tallied the eventual game winner as Rowan came back from 1-0 deficit at Montclair State to win, 3-1, and clinch the NJAC regular-season title in the process. She Leads the Profs in scoring with 18 goals and 10 assists. It marks the second time this season she has earned this honor.
Powell, a freshman forward, scored her first career goal in that 3-1 win at Montclair State that clinched the NJAC regular-season title for Rowan. With the Profs trailing 1-0 in the third quarter, Powell came off the bench and scored the tying goal at 39:05, starting a string of three Rowan goals in 13 minutes.
McChesney and the Profs opened the season against #8 NYU, where the senior notched a win in the 50 free (24.60) and a second place in the 100 free (53.56). Pennington made her first appearance as a Prof memorable, as the freshman won three events on the day; the 100 backstroke (58.69), the 200 backstroke (2:05.87), and the 200 IM (2:13.54).
Rucci was victorious in two events in #17 Rowan's season opener on Saturday vs. #9 NYU, winning the 100 butterfly (51.49) and the 200 butterfly (1:51.89) while taking third in the 200 IM (1:56.88). In his collegiate debut, Kundrats also picked up a pair of individual wins, claiming first in the 100 breaststroke (58.30) and 200 breaststroke (2:11.95).
Giordano was instrumental in guiding the #20 Profs to two shutouts in a 1-0-1 week, first helping spearhead the defense in holding the defending champion TCNJ scoreless in a 0-0 draw on Wednesday. She then followed that up on Saturday as Rowan blanked William Paterson, 2-0, for the team's tenth-straight shutout and 11th this season. It marks the first time this year that Giordano has earned the NJAC honor.
Troiano posted a goal and an assist in the 5-0 win at TCNJ, as Rowan has gone 3-0-1 in its last four games, with all being shutouts. The freshman forward now has three goals and three assists on the season and earns the top rookie award for the second time.
This week, the fall teams will close out its respective regular seasons with conference playoffs right around the corner. Field Hockey (15-1, 5-0 NJAC) plays at Elizabethtown on Wednesday before hosting Ramapo on Senior Day on Saturday. Women's Swimming (0-1) hosts Kean on Friday for a NJAC clash while men's swimming (0-1) returns to action on Saturday, November 5th at home against Montclair State. #20 Women's Soccer (11-0-3, 7-0-1 NJAC) and men's soccer (8-5-4, 3-2-3 NJAC) both host Stockton on Wednesday in the season finales for both.
