NCAA Day Three Highlights

GREENSBORO, NC – Rowan's Ahmir Johnson won the triple jump and the 4x400 meter relay took first place at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 29 at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.  Jah'mere Beasley and the 4x100 meter relay earned All-America.
 
Rowan finished fourth in the team scoring with 41 points.  The 4x400 meter relay of Amara Conte, Hunter Barbieri, Justin Bishop and Francis Terry ran a winning time of 3:11.81.  The relay received 10 points and moved the Profs up to fourth in the team scoring past Wis.-La Crosse (39) after being in fifth place. 



In the prelims, the 4x400 meter relay ran a time of 3:11.40 and was third going into the final.  Rowan had the sixth best time (3:12.35) among the 14 national qualifiers.
 
Johnson captured the national title with a leap of 49' 7" (15.11 m) on his second attempt, which was a personal record.  He also jumped 47' 7.75" (14.52 m) on his first attempt and 48' 10" (14.88) in the fifth round.  Johnson was ranked eighth among the national qualifiers with 48' 3.5" (14.72 m). 
 
Beasley ran 21.18 in the 200 meter dash and finished second.  The top eight finishers in each event are All-American.  On Thursday, he won the second heat of the 200 meters in 21.33 and was second going into the final.  Prior to the championships, Beasley was ranked fourth (21.18) among the 14 qualifiers.
 
Julian Pratt, Donovan Clement, Beasley and Nana Agyemang made up the 4x100 meter relay that finished seventh in 41.22.  In the prelims, the relay had a time of 41.01, which was fifth among the final eight teams.  The 4x100 meter relay was 11th (41.32) going into the championships.
 
On Friday, Dan McAleavey and Julio Lebron earned All-America in the javelin.  McAleavey finished second with a throw of 206' 6.5" (62.95 m) on his fifth attempt, which was a personal record.  Lebron came in sixth and his best was on the sixth and final attempt.  He threw the javelin 192' 6" (58.67 m). 
 
Wartburg took first place (54) in the team scoring followed by Wis.-Eau Claire, second (49) and Wis.-Oshkosh third (48).
