Krystyna Hovell and
Julia Patrone scored two goals apiece to lead the #11 Rowan field hockey team to a 6-0 win over Montclair State (5-4; 0-1) in the NJAC opener for both teams. The win is the fourth straight for Rowan (6-2; 1-0 NJAC).
Liz Fox had a goal and an assist and
Kristiina Castagnola scored her 10th goal of the season, to go along with an assist, as the Profs dominated the contest offensively, outshooting the Red Hawks, 34-2. Rowan goalie
Abby Hainsworth picked up her first shutout of the year, making one save on the day.
Patrone opened the scoring at 7:24, knocking in a loose ball, to give Rowan a quick 1-0 lead.
The Profs scored three goals in the second quarter, starting with Castagnola's at 25:34, as she backhanded a shot into the upper corner of the cage. Fox followed with another just two minutes later, putting in a rebound and Hovell closed out the scoring in the half after Castagnola tipped a pass from Patrone, and Hovell put it in from close range at 28:44.
In the second half, Fox sent a long pass into the circle which Hovell collected in front to score at 41:21. Hovell also had a hand in the final goal when she sent a short pass to Patrone, who tallied her 10th of the season at 53:50.
