Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team ended the regular season with a 5-2 win over New Jersey City University on Sunday. The Gothic Knights were scheduled to host the game but due to field conditions, the contest was moved to the Profs' field.
Rowan has a 29-8 record with a 12-6 final New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) mark. The Profs are the fourth seed in the conference championship tournament and will play at the third seed Rutgers-Camden (24-13) on Tuesday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m. The remainder of the NJAC Championship Tournament will be held on Friday-Sunday, May 4-6 at Kean University. The Gothic Knights are 19-18 overall (NJAC 6-12).
Left-hander
Drew Ryback (so. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) threw seven innings for his seventh victory (7-0). He scattered eight hits and gave up two earned runs. Right-hander
Andrew Cartier (jr. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.) pitched the last two innings and earned his first save. He allowed only two hits. Ryback and Cartier each had four strikeouts. Pitcher Anthony Zicaro (jr. Linden, NJ/Linden) took the loss (2-5).
Shortstop
Dillon Mendel (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) led the way with three hits (five at bats), two RBIs and one run. First baseman
Anthony Harrold (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed with a double and two RBIs. Center fielder
Kyle Golla (sr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) and right fielder
Nick Schooley (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) each produced three hits and scored one run. Second baseman
Alex Kokos (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) chipped in with two hits and one run. Catcher
Jared Marks (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) added one hit, one RBI and one run.
For NJCU, center fielder Jesse Kraft (jr. Nutley, NJ/St. Mary (Rutherford)) totaled two hits, a double and two RBIs. Right fielder Juan Pena (so. Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) and catcher Jan Castellano (jr. Prospect Park, NJ/Paterson Eastside) each had two hits. Third baseman Nick LoGatto (jr. Helmetta, NJ/Spotswood) and first baseman Dan Berardi (sr. Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) scored one run apiece.
The Profs were ahead 1-0 after Mendel drove in Schooley with a single in the top of the first inning. The Gothic Knights tied the score in the second inning. Kraft singled to left field, scoring LoGatto. They took the lead in the fourth when Berardi crossed the plate on Kraft's double down the right field line.
Rowan went ahead 4-2 in the fifth inning. Marks came home on a base hit by Mendel. Harrold knocked in two runs with a double to center field. Mendel and Kokos both scored. The Profs had one more run in the eighth. Marks recorded a sacrifice fly and Golla came home.
