Box Score SALISBURY, MD – The Salisbury University women's lacrosse team held off Rowan University, 13-10 on Tuesday.
The Seagulls are undefeated with a 4-0 record and they are ranked fifth in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll. The Profs are 1-1 on the season.
Attack Dana King (sr. Lusby, MD/Patuxent) led Salisbury with six goals and attack Gabrielle Mongno (jr. Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) contributed with three. Attack Krissy Murphy (sr. Finksburg, MD/Westminster) chipped in with two goals and an assist. Attack Alissa Talbert (sr. Eden, MD/Worcester Prep) and midfielder Allie Hynson (sr. Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) had one goal apiece. Goalies Gianna Falcone (sr. Florham Park, NJ/Academy of Saint Elizabeth) and Skye Graham (so. Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) stopped six and three shots respectively, each playing 30 minutes.
For Rowan, midfielder
Liz Kramer (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) totaled three goals and two assists. Attack
Maddie Bray (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) hit the net three times. Defender/midfielder
Taylor Gretz (jr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) scored twice while
midfielder
Nicole Mickendrow (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) added one goal and one assist. Attack
Julia Stumpf (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) registered one goal. Goalie
Erin Horner (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made three saves.
The Profs recorded 19 shots on goal while the Seagulls had 16. Rowan amassed 20 draw controls while Salisbury had five. The Seagulls edged the Profs, 12-11 in ground balls.
Murphy produced the first goal of the second half (25:49) and Salisbury was ahead 7-5. Gretz found the net two times (24:20, 23:22) and the score was tied at seven. King followed with three goals and the Seagulls led 10-7 with 12:43 left. Stumpf scored (11:32) with a pass from Kramer. Bray cut the deficit to one (10-9) with Kramer's help at 7:06. Salisbury went up 12-9 after goals by Mongno (5:59) and King (5:03). Bray had the Profs' final goal (3:05) and Mongno ended the scoring at the six-second mark.
The Profs scored four unanswered goals to end the first half down by one (6-5). Mickendrow scored a goal (4:52) and Kramer followed with three straight (3:38, 1:28, 0:18). Salisbury had a 4-0 lead after 8:16 into the game. Bray put Rowan on the scoreboard at 14:35. King and Talbert each had a goal to lead 6-1 with 7:07 left in the period.
Rowan travels to Catholic University on Saturday, March 10 for a noon game.
