Box Score AUBURNDALE, FL – The Rowan University baseball team closed its schedule at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 12-1 victory over Hamilton College on Saturday. The game ended after seven innings due to the tournament's 10-run rule.
It is the first time that the Profs (11-1) have gone undefeated during their spring break trip since 2005. Rowan is ranked 11
th in the D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll and third by the American Baseball Coaches Association. The Continentals fell to 0-6 overall.
The Profs surrendered just one hit. Right-hander
Danny Serreino (jr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) tossed five no-hit innings and struck out 10 for the win (2-0). Lefty Tom Riley (so. St. James, NY/St. Anthony's) took the loss (0-1).
First baseman
Anthony Harrold (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went three-for-four with a double and three runs. Shortstop/third baseman
Dillon Mendel (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) was three-for-five with a triple and three RBIs. Center fielder
Dan Shane (jr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) tallied two hits (five at bats), a double, one RBI and two runs scored.
Second baseman
Alex Kokos (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and designated hitter
Shawn Leydon (sr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) each drove in two runs. Third baseman Justin Provost (fr. Hackettstown, NJ/Pope John XXIII) hit a solo home run and scored twice. Left fielder
Monny Strickland (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and catcher
Zach Leach (so. Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII) knocked in one run apiece.
Rowan recorded one run in the first before breaking the game open with nine runs in the third, all with two outs. Shortstop Jarrett Lee (fr. Medfield, MA/Medfield) broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth with a RBI double to left center. He brought home second baseman Matt Zaffino (fr. New Canaan, CT/Fairfield College Preparatory School), who reached on a walk.
The Profs have a home game versus Neumann University scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 at 3:30 p.m.
