Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team defeated Skidmore College, 17-10 in the home opener on Thursday.
The Profs, ranked 24
th, are 3-1 on the season. It was the first loss for the Thoroughbreds (4-1).
Attacks
Maddie Bray (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and
Kim Doyle (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and midfielder
Nicole Mickendrow (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) each scored four goals. Doyle and Mickendrow also had one assist apiece. Midfielder
Taylor Gretz (jr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) totaled two goals and four assists. Midfielder
Liz Kramer (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) chipped in with two goals.
Goalie
Erin Horner (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) stopped 11 shots. Bray collected six draw controls while Kramer and Gretz each had five. Gretz also registered five ground balls.
For Skidmore, midfielder Natalie LaBeau (jr. Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) compiled two goals and one assist. Attack Cas Szwajkowski (jr. Rye, NY/Northfield Mount Hermon) and midfielder Shelby Boland (fr. Barrington, RI/La Salle Academy) both scored twice while attack Anna Boogaerts (jr. Providence, RI/Wheeler) produced one goal and one assist. Attacks Lilla Seymour (so. Wilton, CT/Wilton) and Abby Sanford (so. Avont, CT/Millbrook School (NY)) and defender/midfielder Kathleen Hanna (so. Westwood, NJ/Westwood) each scored one time. Goalie Caroline Kenlon (so. Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) made 11 saves.
Skidmore was ahead 3-2 (23:10) in the first half then Rowan scored four straight goals to lead 6-3 at 3:10. Bray found the net two times and Doyle followed with two goals. Boland had the final tally of the period (2:36) and the Thoroughbreds trailed 6-4.
The Profs went up 9-4 in the second half after Mickendrow scored (29:16) and Doyle (29:03) and Mickendrow (24:56) had free position goals. LaBeau hit the net with a free position shot and Rowan followed with four unanswered goals for a 13-5 advantage. Gretz produced the first two goals while Kramer and Bray each had one.
The Thoroughbreds pulled within four (13-9) at 8:37 after Boogaerts, Boland, Szwajkowski and LaBeau each scored one time. The two teams exchanged goals before Rowan sealed the victory with scores from Mickendrow, Doyle and Kramer.
Rowan is home again on Wednesday, March 21 versus Neumann University at 4 p.m.
