Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team edged 11
th-ranked Catholic University, 19-18 on Saturday.
The Profs up their record to 2-1 while the Cardinals are 3-2 overall. Attack
Maddie Bray (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) led Rowan with four goals. Defender/midfielders
Taylor Gretz (jr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and
Liz Kramer (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and attack
Kim Doyle (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) tallied three goals and one assist apiece. Attack
Alex DeGaris (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) netted three goals. Attacks
Ashley Lechliter (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) and
Julia Stumpf (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and midfielder
Nicole Mickendrow (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) each chipped in with one goal.
Goalkeeper
Erin Horner (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) stopped 14 shots for the win. Goalies Nanci Hernandez (so. San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch) and Christina De Cesaris (jr. Downington, PA/Bishop Shanahan) each played a half and made four and three saves respectively for the Cardinals.
Catholic attack Nicolette Crisalli (sr. Silver Spring, MD/St. John's College) potted six goals. Attack Holly Regan (so. Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) totaled two goals and four assists. Midfielders Jessica Lyons (jr. Havertown, PA/Haverford) and Anna Maupin (fr. Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) recorded four and three goals respectively. Attack Bridget Beck (fr. Collegeville, PA/Gwynedd Mercy) and midfielder Julia Clementi (so. Harborfields, NY/Harborfields) contributed with one goal and one assist apiece while midfielder Ally Criscuolo (so. Southampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) added a goal.
Rowan was ahead 11-7 entering the second half. Crisalli (29:31), Lyons (29:16) and Clementi (28:01) scored three quick goals to cut the deficit to one (11-10). DeGaris (26:23) and Gretz (25:01) responded to make the score 13-10. Lyons (23:27) and Regan (22:59) hit the back of the net to close the gap to 13-12.
The teams alternated goals for the remainder of the contest. Maupin had the final tally with 2:29 remaining. Lyons won the ensuing draw and earned a free-position attempt. Horner made the save and Clementi picked up the loose ball. Horner stopped another shot and the Profs had a clear attempt. Maupin caused a turnover and Horner was forced to make another save on a free-position try. Horner came up with another big stop on Crisalli with nine seconds remaining to clinch the victory.
In the opening half, the Cardinals went up 2-0 after goals by Crisalli (28:28) and Regan (26:24). Rowan countered with three straight markers from Gretz (25:32), Doyle (22:27) and Kramer (21:51). Maupin evened the score at five with a goal at the 12:25 mark. The Profs went on to register six of the next seven scores to take an 11-6 lead with 1:00 left in the period. Bray produced four of the goals and Mickendrow and Lechliter had one apiece. Beck ended the scoring with seven seconds remaining and Rowan had an 11-7 advantage at the break.
Next, the Profs head to Bridgewater College (VA) on Monday, March 12 for a 4 p.m. game.
