Women's Lacrosse Falls 10-6 At Montclair State In NJAC Semifinals

Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ  – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 10-6 loss at Montclair State University in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Wednesday.
 
The Profs (11-6) were the third seed while the Red Hawks (12-5) are the second seed. Montclair State advances to the conference title game on Saturday, where it will play either top-seeded The College of New Jersey or the fourth seed Stockton University. The Lions and Ospreys battle in the other semifinal matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
 
Attack Lindsay Lare (sr. Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) scored three times for the Red Hawks and midfielder Francesca Verrone (sr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) recorded one goal and two assists. Lare also had five draw controls. Attack Aviana Paraggio (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) netted two goals. Attack Chelsea Orban (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central), midfielders Jessica Andreula (so. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) and Grace Conlon (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) and attack Megan Mahlstadt (fr. New Providence, NJ/New Providence) produced one goal apiece.
 
Attack Kyle Graver (fr. Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) and Mahlstadt each notched one assist. Goalkeeper Amanda Maguire (fr. Verona, NJ/Verona) stopped 13 shots and defender Layal Issa (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) added six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
Rowan defender/midfielder Taylor Gretz (so. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) totaled three goals, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Defender/midfielder Liz Kramer (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) chipped in with one goal and one assist. Attacks Maddie Bray (so. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and Reese Parr (so. Freehold, NJ/Howell) each hit the back of the net one time. Attack Megan Donnelly (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with one assist.
 
Defender Giselle Cortes (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) picked up eight ground balls and caused three turnovers. Defender Lilli Carbone (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had three caused turnovers and goalie Erin Horner (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made seven saves.
 
Bray opened the scoring just 56 seconds into the contest. Verrone responded 15 seconds later and Lare gave the Red Hawks the lead at the 25:27 mark. Goals by Kramer (15:24) and Parr (14:30) put Rowan ahead for the final time. Montclair State followed with two straight goals to end the half.
 
The Red Hawks tallied the first two markers of the second period for a 6-3 advantage with 24:44 on the clock. Gretz cut the deficit to two (6-4) with 17:57 left. Lare and Gretz traded goals and the score was 7-5 with 9:19 remaining. Paraggio (7:49) and Orban (5:22) increased the margin to four (9-5). Gretz netted her third at 2:06 and Mahlstadt had the final tally at 1:41.
