Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team went 1-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader at Montclair State University on Saturday.
 
The Profs (17-9, NJAC 2-3) came from behind to win the opener, 4-3 then the Red Hawks (8-13, NJAC 2-3) recovered to take the nightcap, 3-2.
 
In game one, the score was tied at three entering the ninth inning. Catcher Zach Leach (fr. Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII) led off with a double down the right field line. Second baseman Alex Kokos (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) bunted Leach to second. Right fielder Jason Clapper (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) singled up the middle and Leach scored the go-ahead run.
 
Right-hander Andrew Cartier (so. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.) picked up the win in relief. He (4-1) threw six scoreless innings and gave up just two hits. Righty Taylor Parsons (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) took the loss (0-1).
 
Leach ended the contest with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Clapper drove in a pair of runs. Left fielder Monny Strickland (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and third baseman Matt Jolly (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each had two hits and scored one time. Strickland also recorded a double.
 
Montclair State shortstop Justin Epifanio (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) went two-for-three. Second baseman Joe Foote (jr. Wallington, NJ/St. Joseph's (Montvale)) knocked in one run. Right fielder Ryan Long (sr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.), first baseman Ryan Thieme (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) and designated hitter Dom Lampasona (so. Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) each touched the plate once.
 
The Red Hawks tallied two runs in the opening frame. Long scored on a wild pitch then Foote's base hit plated Thieme. Rowan tied the score in the fourth. Strickland led off with a double then Jolly singled. After a sacrifice bunt, Leach flied out to right and Strickland scored. Jolly then came home on an error. In the bottom half, Lampasona reached home on a wild pitch to put Montclair State ahead 3-2. The Profs evened the score at three when Leach touched the plate on a fielder's choice in the seventh.
 
Right-handed pitcher Connor Lindsay (jr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) was the winner in the second contest. He (3-2) went eight innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Parsons pitched the ninth for his second save. Righty Andrew Cohen (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) was tagged with the loss. He (1-4) surrendered three runs, one earned, and eight hits over eight innings. Cohen struck out six batters.
 
Long was three-for-four with two runs scored for Montclair State. Foote drove in two runs and designated hitter Matt Long (sr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) had two hits and one RBI. Thieme crossed the plate one time.
 
Strickland went two-for-three with a triple, one RBI and one run. Jolly totaled two hits (four at bats), one double and one run scored. Shortstop Matt Edwards (so. Manasquan, NJ/Manasquan) chipped in with one RBI.
 
Rowan took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Jolly began the frame with a double then Strickland plated him with a triple to right center. Edwards' base hit brought home Strickland. Ryan Long came home on a groundout in the sixth to cut the deficit to one (2-1). The Red Hawks recorded the tying and go-ahead runs in the eighth. Ryan Long scored on a groundout and Matt Long sent a single to right field and Thieme touched the plate.
 
The Profs host conference foe Stockton University in a rescheduled game on Sunday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
