Box Score GALLOWAY, NJ – Stockton University scored all six of its runs in the third inning and defeated the Rowan University baseball team, 6-5 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Friday.
The Profs are 16-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Ospreys have a 10-9 record with a 2-1 NJAC mark.
Right-hander Ray Hughes (so. Forked River, NJ/Lacey Twp.) was the winning pitcher. He (2-1) went five innings and recorded three strikeouts. Righty Tyler Apt (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) threw the final four frames for his first save. He surrendered just two hits. Right-handed pitcher
Eric Shugars (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) took the loss (3-2). He fanned five batters in seven innings.
Stockton right fielder James Wines (jr. Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and second baseman Mike DeSenzo (so. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) each went two-for-four and scored a run. First baseman Nick LaPorta (sr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) had a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Designated hitter David Mann (fr. Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) knocked in a pair of runs while third baseman JJ Swentkowski (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Wines totaled one RBI apiece.
Center fielder
Shane Brown (sr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) led Rowan with two hits (three at bats), a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Catcher
Steven Hewa (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) hit a double and scored a run. Designated hitter

Monny Strickland (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) touched the plate twice.
The Profs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Strickland and Jolly both had a base hit. A sacrifice bunt by Edwards moved them to second and third. Brown followed with a two-run double to left center. Brown advanced to third on a fly out then came home on Leydon's single.
The Ospreys had their first five batters reach base in the bottom of the third on three singles and two hit by pitches to make the score 3-2. After a foul out, LaPorta doubled to left center to plate center fielder Zach Gustites (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and Wines. Mann hit a two-RBI single and LaPorta and Swentkowski touched home for a 6-3 advantage.
Rowan's final two runs came in the fifth. Hewa doubled with two outs and Strickland was hit by a pitch. Jolly singled through the left side to score Hewa and Edwards' base hit plated Strickland.
The Profs visit Montclair State University for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8 at 11:30 a.m.
