Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team had a 13-8 loss at conference opponent Montclair State University on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams are 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Midfielder Francesca Verrone (sr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) led the Red Hawks with seven goals and attack Chelsea Orban (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) chipped in with four. Attacks Aviana Paraggio (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Lindsay Lare (sr. Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Reg.) each added one goal while attack Kyle Graver (fr. Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) had two assists. Lare also registered four draw controls and midfielder Grace Conlon (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) followed with three.
Montclair State goalie Amanda Maguire (fr. Verona, NJ/Verona) stopped 14 shots and collected six ground balls. Rowan goalie
Erin Horner (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) stopped eight shots. The Red Hawks and the Profs totaled 32 shots apiece.
Attacks
Maddie Bray (so. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and
Megan Donnelly (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) each scored two goals for Rowan. Attacks
Danielle Hubbs (sr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca),
Ali Herbert (sr. Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) and
Rachel Hofbauer (sr. Totowa, NJ/Wayne Valley) and midfielder
Taylor Gretz (so. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) all hit the net one time. Gretz also had five draw controls. Defender/midfielder
Liz Kramer (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) assisted on one goal.
Verrone started the game with two straight goals in less than three minutes. Herbert put Rowan on the scoreboard (24:16) then Montclair State went ahead 5-1 after three straight tallies. Paraggio, Orban and Verrone each had one goal. The Profs trailed 5-4 with 7:12 remaining. Gretz scored a free position goal (16:24), Hofbauer had an unassisted goal (8:02) and Bray hit the net with a free position shot (7:12). The teams traded goals and the Red Hawks were ahead 6-5 at the break.
Verrone put MSU up 8-5 with two goals in the second half. Rowan answered with three consecutive scores for a tie game (8-8) with 20:42 left. Donnelly, Hubbs and Bray each contributed with a goal. The Red Hawks then recorded five unanswered goals for the victory. Orban produced three goals while Verrone and Lare each had one.
