Box Score ASHLAND, VA – The Rowan University baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning to come back and win 7-5 at Randolph-Macon College on Saturday.
The Profs are 2-0 on the season while the Yellow Jackets have a 7-3 record. Rowan plays a doubleheader at Randolph-Macon on Sunday starting at noon.
Right-hander
Brad Machinski (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) was the winning pitcher in relief. He (1-0) threw five innings, scattered five hits and gave up one unearned run. Righty Nic Phelps took the loss. He (1-2) went 4.1 innings and allowed six earned runs on five hits.
First baseman
Monny Strickland (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) led the team with three RBIs, a triple and one run. Right fielder
Kyle Golla (sr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) contributed with two RBIs and one run. Center fielder
Shane Brown (sr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon) and second baseman
Alex Kokos (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each chipped in with one RBI.
Catcher
Steven Hewa (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was two for four at the plate with a double and two runs. Third baseman
Dillon Mendel (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) added two hits (four at bats) and one run. Designated hitter
Joe Sadler (jr. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) and Kokos scored one run apiece.
For Randolph-Macon, left fielder Cole Migliorini totaled two hits (three at bats), three RBIs and a home run. Second baseman Jeff Butler produced a homer and scored twice. Center fielder Ryan Duphorn and designated hitter Blake Saathoff each had one hit and one run.
Rowan trailed 4-0 going into the fifth inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Golla singled to left field, scoring Sadler. Strickland came into the game to pinch hit and blasted a three RBI triple to right center. Hewa, Mendel and Golla all crossed the plate. Kokos knocked in Strickland with a triple to left center for the go ahead run. Brown reached base on an error and Kokos came home.
Both teams had one run in the sixth inning. Hewa doubled to right field and went to third on Mendel's base hit to center field. Golla brought Hewa home with a sacrifice bunt. In the bottom half, Saathoff scored for the Yellow Jackets on a double play.
Randolph-Macon had the bases loaded with no outs in the ninth. Migliorini hit a ground ball to shortstop
Matt Jolly (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) who turned a double play. The next batter also hit a grounder to Jolly for the final out.
