Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, FL – The Rowan University baseball team swept a doubleheader against Ripon College at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Sunday.
 
The Profs (7-2) won the first game, 7-5 before recording a 5-1 victory in the nightcap. The Red Hawks drop to 0-3. Both contests were seven innings.
 
Right-hander Brad Machinski (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) was the winning pitcher in game one. He (2-0) hurled six innings and allowed five runs, just one earned, on nine hits while striking out three. Righty Sam Nocito (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) picked up his first save. He surrendered one hit while striking out two in the seventh. Right-handed pitcher Brice Swick (so. Kimberly, WI/Kimberly) suffered the loss (0-1).
 
Third baseman Dillon Mendel (so. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and catcher Zach Leach (fr. Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII) each drove in two runs and scored one time. Left fielder Frank Rose (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) knocked in one run and scored twice. Rose and Mendel both hit a double. Designated hitter Steven Hewa (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) had two runs scored.
 
Ripon left fielder Bennett Groves (fr. Appleton, WI/Appleton E.) went three-for-three with two runs. First baseman Doug Ferrell (jr. Bellaire, TX/Bellaire) was two-for-three. Center fielder David La Tour (fr. Manitowoc, WI/Lincoln) produced a double and shortstop Isiah Ramos (so. Delavan, WI/Delavan-Darien) totaled two RBIs. Center fielder/first baseman Robbie Schuettpelz (sr. Green Bay, WI/Pulaski) had one RBI and crossed the plate one time.
 
Rowan tallied two runs in the second inning. Hewa led off with a single and Rose brought him home with a double. Rose touched the plate on an error. Groves scored on a fielder's choice in the third to make the score 2-1. Leach's sacrifice fly in the fourth plated Rose and the Profs had a 3-1 advantage.
 
The Red Hawks tied the score with two in the fifth. Groves scored on Ramos' groundout and designated hitter Riley Erickson (so. Nekoosa, WI/Nekoosa) registered a RBI single. In the sixth, Ripon added a run on an error and Schuettpelz knocked in a run with a base hit for a 5-3 lead. Rowan exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain the lead for good. Mendel drove in two runs with a double then came home on Leach's single. Leach touched the plate on a fielder's choice.
 
Right-hander Eric Shugars (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) hurled a complete game in the second contest. He (2-0) gave up one run on four hits and fanned 11 batters. Righty Matt Hecht (sr. Sister Bay, WI/Gibraltar) took the loss (0-1).
 
Right fielder Kyle Golla (sr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)), second baseman Matt Jolly (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape), first baseman Joe Sadler (jr. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) and Mendel each tallied two hits. Sadler had a double. Rose blasted a two-run homer and left fielder Monny Strickland (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Golla and Jolly had one RBI apiece.
 
The Profs scored all five of their runs in the third. Leach led off with a single then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brown. Golla singled up the middle to plate Leach. Golla went to second on a balk then scored on Jolly's base hit. Sadler doubled and there were runners on second and third. Strickland had a sacrifice fly and Jolly came home. Rose followed with his two-run home run. The Red Hawks registered their run in the sixth when Ramos came home on a groundout.
