Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team began the 2017 season with a 12-7 victory over visiting Ursinus College on Wednesday.
Attack
Rachel Hofbauer (sr. Totowa, NJ/Wayne Valley) tallied four goals. Attack
Maddie Bray (so. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) totaled two goals and one assist while defender/midfielder
Taylor Gretz (so. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) hit the back of the net three times. Attack
Ali Herbert (sr. Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) registered one goal and one assist. Attacks
Danielle Hubbs (sr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and
Megan Donnelly (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) scored one goal apiece and attack
Jess Havers (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) notched one assist.
The Bears (2-1) received three goals apiece from defender/midfielder Franny Liberatoscioli (jr. Malvern, PA/Great Valley) and midfielder Emily DiGiorgio (so. Downingtown, PA/Downingtown W.). Midfielder Amy Kohout (sr. West Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had one goal and midfielder Bridget Sherry (so. Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) recorded an assist.
Profs' goalkeeper
Erin Horner (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) stopped six shots in the win. Kaitlyn France (so. Aston, PA/Sun Valley) played the first half in the Ursinus cage and Meaghan Corbin (jr. Danville, CA/Carondelet) was in the net for the second period. Both made one save.
Liberatoscioli opened the scoring 2:32 into the contest with an assist from Sherry. Hofbauer tied the score on a free position goal (24:37). DiGiorgio hit the back of the net to put the Bears ahead 2-1 (22:37). Rowan had the next four tallies for a 5-2 advantage with 16:53 remaining in the first half. Bray and Hofbauer each had two goals. DiGiorgio's marker made the score 6-4 with 6:26 on the clock. Hubbs (0:20) and Gretz (0:01) produced late goals and the Profs had an 8-4 lead at the break.
In the second stanza, Gretz (25:43) and Donnelly (17:09) increased the margin to six (10-4). Kohout's tally (15:14) got Ursinus within five (10-5). Herbert (15:04) and Hofbauer (9:45) both beat the goalkeeper and the Profs had their largest lead of the game at seven (12-5). Liberatoscioli (8:49) and DiGiorgio (1:34) closed the scoring.
