Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team never trailed in a big 88-74 victory over The College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
The Profs are 13-8 overall and 8-6 in the conference. The Lions have a 15-6 record and drop from second to third in the NJAC standings with an 11-3 mark.
Guard
Nick DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) scored at least 20 points for the third straight game, finishing with a game-high 21. He is the reigning NJAC Player of the Week. Forward
Shawn Wilson (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) registered 18 points and nine rebounds. Guard
Rob DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) contributed with 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Guard
Josh Borrelli (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and center/forward
Teirique Robinson (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) chipped in with 11 points apiece. Robinson also grabbed eight boards and blocked four shots.
Guard Eric Klacik (sr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and forward Corey Stanford (sr. Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Trafford) each recorded 14 points for TCNJ. Stanford also corralled nine rebounds. Forward Jordan Glover (so. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) tallied 10 points while guard Eric Murdock, Jr. (jr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and forward Bobby Brackett (sr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) produced nine points apiece. Brackett had 10 rebounds.
Rowan began the contest with 16 of the first 20 points over the opening 4:40.
Nick DePersia poured in 11 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc, and Wilson totaled five. Borrelli (10:43) and guard
Jeff Haddock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) (9:40) hit back-to-back triples and the Profs were ahead 27-11. It was the first of four times in which Rowan led by 16, its largest margin of the game. The Lions had an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 10 (29-19) with 8:07 on the clock. Stanford and Brackett each registered four points. Forward
TJ Booth's (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) layup (4:12) made the score 40-25. Klacik drilled a three (0:58) for the final bucket of the half and Rowan had a 45-34 advantage.
In the second stanza, Wilson's three-pointer gave the Profs a 58-42 cushion at the 15:24 mark. Stanford (15:02) and Klacik (12:49) each hit a deep shot and the Lions trailed by 10 (58-48). Robinson had a layup for another 16-point lead (68-52) with 6:58 remaining. TCNJ went on a 9-2 surge to get within seven (77-70) with 1:33 left. Rowan converted nine foul shots down the stretch to seal the win.
The Profs host New Jersey City University on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
