TCNJ Field Hockey Hangs On For 4-3 NJAC Semifinal Win Against Rowan

Box Score EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey field hockey team held on for a 4-3 win against Rowan University in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Wednesday night.
 
The second seeded Lions (14-3) travel to the top seed Kean University on Saturday, Nov. 4 for the conference final.  In the other semifinal game, Kean edged the fourth seed Montclair State University, 3-2.  The Profs, the second seed, have a 13-6 record.    
 
Forward Tori Tiefenthaler (fr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Borough) recorded the game-winner (64:59) on a pass from midfielder/back Sidney Padilla (jr. Suffern, NJ/Suffern).  Tiefenthaler ended the game with two goals.
 
Forward Nikki Kotelnicki (jr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County Reg.) gave Rowan the lead (3-2) at 49:06.  She scored on a scramble in front of the Lions' goal.  TCNJ tied the score for the third time (52:30) when forward/midfielder Caroline Quinn (jr. Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) hit the net and forward Elizabeth Morrison (sr. Stonington, CT/Stonington) had the assist.  
 
Rowan forward Rachel Galante (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Collingswood) started the scoring at 7:36.  Galante took a shot on a penalty corner and it was stopped by a defender, then she knocked the ball into the cage. Tiefenthaler tied the score (18:22) with an assist from Morrison.
 
Less than three minutes later, midfielder Julie Johnson (jr. Mount Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) gave the Profs a 2-1 advantage.  She tapped in a rebound after her first shot was stopped by goalie Christina Fabiano (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills).  Forward Kayla Peterson (so. Ridge, NJ/Allentown) knotted the score at 46:42.
 
Fabian had seven saves on the night.  Rowan goalie Carly DeMarco (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) turned away six shots.
 
This was the seventh year for the NJAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament.  All seven years, the Profs have advanced to the conference postseason.
