COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Ursinus scored all of its goals in the second half to stake the lead and earn a 3-1 win over #14 Rowan in the field hockey season opener for both teams.
 
The teams battled through a scoreless  and evenly matched first half, with Rowan goalie Ella Morton making two saves.
 
The Bears opened the scoring early in the second half, at 34:24 when Marie Brainerd found the cage off a corner. Ursinus added to the total and held a 3-0 lead with under 10 minutes to play.

Rowan's leading returning scorer, Sydney Kowalczyk, tallied the Profs' first goal of the season at 55:22 off a corner. Gracie Merrick sent the insert to Mia Foti who passed it to Ella Toll on the left side. Toll found Kowalczyk on the right side and the sophomore put it in the left side of the cage to end Ursinus' shutout bid.
 
Morton finished the game with five saves as Ursinus held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The Profs will play their second game on the road on Sunday when they visit #12 Stevens.
