Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team opened 2017 with a 78-67 victory over Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.
The Profs improve to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Cougars remain winless with a 0-12 record and 0-6 NJAC mark.
Guard
Jeff Haddock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) led Rowan with 17 points. Guard
Rob DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Forward
Gary Carthan (sr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Guard
Josh Borrelli (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) chipped in with 11 points.
Kean forward Micah Kerr (so. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) poured in a game-high 22 points. Forward Mike Summerer (so. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Guard Justin Watson (so. New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) contributed with 11 points. Guard Kevin Grek (sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) corralled six boards.
Watson's three got the Cougars within two (43-41) with 16:06 to go in the second half. The Profs responded with 12 straight points for a 55-41 lead with 13:01 on the clock. Borrelli totaled five points, Carthan drained a three and guard
DaRon Curry (so. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) and DePersia each had two points. Summerer made a layup (8:58) and the score was 59-53. Rowan pulled away again with a 12-2 surge and was ahead 71-55 (4:41).
The Profs had a 17-14 advantage with 9:45 left in the first half. Forward
Jordan Sintras (fr. Sydney, Australia/St. Ignatius' College, Riverview) sank a three-pointer (9:32), forward
TJ Booth (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) hit a jump shot (8:59) and Curry converted two foul shots for a 10-point margin (24-14). Kerr's layup cut the deficit to three (27-24) at the 4:40 mark. Rowan led by nine (33-24) with 3:31 remaining before Kean scored six straight points to get back within three (33-30). Summerer had four of the points. Haddock drilled a three (1:15) and the Profs had a 36-30 lead at the break.
Rowan travels to #23 New Jersey City University on Saturday, Jan. 7 for a 3 p.m. game.
