Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team won 81-67 over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon.
Guard
Jeff Haddock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) led the way with 15 points off the bench. Forward
Shawn Wilson (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) contributed with 14 points while guards
Josh Borrelli (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and
Nick DePersia (so. Cherry Hill NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) each had 11. Forward
Gary Carthan (sr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) grabbed six rebounds while guard
Rob DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) handed out five assists.
The Profs improve to 10-6 overall and 5-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raiders have a 4-12 record with a 3-6 conference record.
Forward Mark Thomas (so. Newark, NJ/Marist) scored a game-high 20 points and he also had six boards. Guard Chase Barneys (fr. Woodbridge, NJ/Colonia) totaled 18 points and forward Landon Gaines (fr. Paterson, NJ/Paramus Catholic) registered 12. Forward/center Kenya Brown (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Pleasantville) compiled eight rebounds.
The score was tied at three in the first half. Rutgers-Newark built a seven point lead (14-7) with an 11-4 run at the 11 minute mark. Thomas produced nine of the 11 points. Rowan answered with a 15-1 rally to go ahead 22-15 with 4:24 remaining. Six different players contributed in the surge. Gaines had a foul shot for the Scarlet Raiders at 3:07. The Profs increased their advantage to 13 (29-16) with seven straight points and 57 seconds left. Haddock registered five points and guard
DaRon Curry (so. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) had two. Gaines nailed a three (0:47) then Wilson made two points at the line (0:02). Rowan led by 12 (31-19) at the break.
In the second half, Brown sank a free throw (18:19) and the Scarlet Raiders trailed by 12 (33-21). The Profs were up by 18 (42-24) after a three-pointer (15:09) and two foul shots (14:55) by forward
Jordan Sintras (fr. Sydney, Australia/St. Ignatius' College, Riverview). Rutgers-Newark pulled within 11 points (46-35) at 12:16 after a 5-0 spurt. Borrelli drilled a three (10:18) and the score was 57-39. Rowan had it biggest lead of 20 (1:41) when Wilson made two foul shots. He was the team's top scorer in the final period with 10 points.
Rowan is home again on Wednesday, Jan. 18 against Stockton University at 8 p.m.
