Baseball Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 8-2

Box Score CAMDEN, NJ  – The Rowan University baseball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 8-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Friday.
 
The Profs ended the game with 18 hits.  Third baseman Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) went two for four with two RBIs and one run.  Second baseman Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) contributed with three hits and two RBIs.  Center fielder Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) collected three hits, one RBI and two runs. 
 
Shortstop Jason Clapper (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and designated hitter Nick Gallo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Paul VI) each added two hits.  Gallo also had one RBI and one run.  Catcher Greg Myers (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was three for three at the plate and scored two runs.  Left fielder Shane Brown (jr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon Reg.) registered one hit and two runs.   
 
Right-hander Eric Shugars (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) threw six innings for the victory.  He (4-0) only allowed two hits and two runs, one earned.  Righty Billy Jackson (sr. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.) had the loss on the mound.  He (4-2) gave up five runs and four were earned.
 
The Profs are 13-9 overall and 3-0 in the conference.  The Scarlet Raptors have an 11-7 record with a 0-3 NJAC mark.
 
For Rutgers-Camden, second baseman Brett Tenuto (sr. Audubon, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had two hits in two trips to the plate.  Center fielder Cory Kreamer (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) posted two hits in four at bats and scored one run.  Third baseman Ray Taylor (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) posted one hit and one run. 
 
Hughes put Rowan up 2-0 in the first inning.  He drove in Brown and Phillips with a single to center field.  Rutgers-Camden tied the score in the third.  Kreamer crossed the plate on an error and Taylor scored on a ground out by left fielder Joe Brooks (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).
 
The Profs took the lead 4-2 in the fourth inning.  Right fielder Kyle Golla's (jr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) base hit to right field scored Gallo and Myers stole home.  Rowan added one run in the fifth and sixth innings.  Gallo singled home Jolly in the fifth.  Jolly registered a RBI base hit in the sixth.  In the seventh, Phillips knocked in Myers with a single and Jolly walked with the bases loaded. 
 
Rowan returns home for a conference doubleheader against New Jersey City University on Sunday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m.
