Box Score UNION, NJ  – The Kean University baseball team won 7-2 over visiting Rowan University on Thursday. 
 
Right-hander Chris Amato (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) pitched a complete game for the victory.  He is 5-2 on the season.  Righty Eric Shugars (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) went 4.2 innings on the mound and took the loss.
 
The Cougars are 23-12 overall and 12-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Profs have a 22-14 record with a 10-5 conference mark.
 
Designated hitter Sal Taormina (sr. Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) and first baseman Matt Krupa (so. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) each contributed with two hits, one double.  Krupa also had two runs and one RBI while Taormina scored one run.  Center fielder Shayne Fontana (fr. Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) and right fielder Ryan Kelley (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) added one hit and one RBI apiece.  Fontana crossed the plate one time.  Catcher Brian Cole (fr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) chipped in with one RBI.
 
For Rowan, center fielder Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) went three for five and scored one run.  Designated hitter Jason Clapper (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) registered one hit, one RBI and one run.
 
The Profs' two runs came in the first inning. Phillips led off with a single through the right side.  He advanced to second and third on ground outs.  Clapper plated Phillips with a base hit through the left side.
 
The Cougars went ahead with four runs in the second.  Krupa came home on an error.  Cole posted a sac bunt, scoring left fielder Frank Urso (so. Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills).  Fontana and Kelley both had RBI singles.  Kean added one run in the third inning and two in the fifth.
 
The home and away series continues on Friday, April 29 when Rowan hosts Kean University at 3:30 p.m.
