Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team defeated William Paterson University, 9-2 on Sunday. The game was rescheduled from April 23 because the conference doubleheader was delayed because of rain.
The Profs have a 22-13 record with a 10-4 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). They are tied for second place in the conference with The College of New Jersey. The Pioneers are 17-17 overall and 6-8 in the NJAC.
Right-hander
Dylan Johannink (sr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) pitched five innings for the victory. He (1-1) gave up five hits and one unearned run. Johannink struck out five batters. Righty Bryan Kopko (so. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) went 4.1 innings and had the loss.
Rowan shortstop
Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) was four for four at the plate with a double, one home run and three RBIs. Third baseman
Dillon Mendel (fr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) contributed with two hits and three RBIs. Left fielder
Eric Oliver (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) had two hits, a double, one RBI and three runs.
Center fielder
Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) added two hits and scored twice. Catcher
Greg Myers (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) collected two hits, one RBI and one run. Right fielder
Kyle Golla (jr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown (NJ)) and second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) each had one hit and one run.
William Paterson left fielder Mike Rowe (jr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) went two for three with one RBI. Second baseman Rob Eggert (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and center fielder Mike Abate (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) each registered two hits. Abate also scored one run. Shortstop K.C. Abel (gr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) had one hit and one RBI. Right fielder Jimmy Kenny (sr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex Reg.) tallied a double and one run.
The Pioneers scored one run in the third inning and the Profs went ahead with two in the bottom half. Abel singled to center field, scoring Abate. Myers came home on a base hit by Oliver and Mendel knocked in Phillips with a single to center field.
Rowan led 5-1 after two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth. Jolly recorded a solo homer to left field in the fourth. Myers singled to center field and Hughes scored. In the fifth, Jolly doubled home Oliver. William Paterson scored one run in the eighth while Rowan added three. Rowe plated Kenny with a single. Golla came home on an error for the Profs. Mendel recorded a two RBI single.
Rowan travels to Kean University on Thursday, April 28 for a 3:30 p.m. conference game.
