Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team won 17-7 over William Paterson University on Saturday. The doubleheader was delayed because of rain on the Profs' Senior Day.
The second contest will be played on Sunday, April 24 at noon. The Profs are 21-13 overall and 9-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Pioneers have a 17-16 record with a 6-7 conference mark.
Right-hander
Brad Machinski (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) threw seven innings for the victory. He (3-1) scattered seven hits and gave up three runs, two earned. Left-hander Chris Babb (fr. West Milford, NJ/DePaul Catholic) had the loss.
Rowan third baseman
Dillon Mendel (fr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) was four for six with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs. Right fielder
Kyle Golla (jr. Palm Coast, NJ/Allentown (NJ)) contributed with three hits (four at bats), two RBIs and two runs. Center fielder
Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) contributed with two RBIs and two runs.
First baseman
Steven Todd (sr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown), catcher
Greg Myers (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) and second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) each totaled three hits and one RBI. Shortstop
Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added two hits and scored two runs. Left fielder
Eric Oliver (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) had two hits, one RBI and one run.
For William Paterson, right fielder Jimmy Kenny (sr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex Reg.) went two for four with a homer and two runs. Left fielder Mike Rowe (jr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) and shortstop K.C. Abel (gr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each registered two hits and one RBI. First baseman Garret Wiedemann (fr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus), outfielder Jordan Aughey (sr. Wanaque, NJ/Lakeland Reg.) and outfielder/third baseman Jon Bernotas (fr. Andover, NJ/Newton) had one RBI apiece.
The Pioneers scored one run in the first and second innings. In the first, center fielder Mike Abate (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) recorded a triple to center field. He came home on catcher Mike Knauf's (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) ground out. Kenny recorded a solo shot in the second. In the bottom half, the Profs went ahead 5-2. Golla singled in the first run and Myers scored on a ground out by Phillips. Oliver had a RBI base hit that scored Golla. Oliver stole home while Mendel went to second. Mendel later crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Rowan was ahead 12-2 after seven runs in the fourth. Mendel doubled in two runs. He came home on a double steal and shortstop
Jason Clapper (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) advanced to second. Hughes and Todd each had a RBI single. Phillips drove in one run with a base hit up the middle and Todd scored on an error. In the sixth, Mendel plated two runs with a double.
In the seventh inning, William Paterson scored one run and Rowan had two. Abel had a RBI single. Myers doubled home Todd and catcher
Steven Hewa (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) crossed the plate on an error. The Pioneers produced four runs in the eighth and the Profs had one in the bottom half. Wiedemann and Aughey each singled in a run. Bernotas walked with the bases loaded and Rowe scored. Jolly came home on a fielder's choice with Golla at bat.
