Box Score GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team won 13-1 at conference opponent Stockton University on Thursday.
Right-hander
Eric Shugars (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) had the win on the mound. The rookie (5-1) threw six shutout innings and scattered six hits. Righty Mike Bergin (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) had the loss.
The Profs have a 19-13 record with a 7-4 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Ospreys are 7-19 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
Rowan ended the game with 20 hits. Center fielder
Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) contributed with three hits and scored two runs. Shortstop
Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and third baseman
Dillon Mendel (fr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) each totaled two hits, one RBI and one run. Second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) had three hits, one RBI and two runs.
Catcher
Greg Myers (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Left fielder
Eric Oliver (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.), designated hitter
Monny Strickland (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and right fielder
Kyle Golla (jr. Palm Coast, FL/Allentown) all added one hit, one RBI and one run. Right fielder
Nick Gallo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Paul VI) registered two hits, a double and one RBI.
For Stockton, shortstop Tyler Hobbs (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) had two hits in three trips to the plate. Right fielder Zach Gustites (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored the run and second baseman Christian Campbell (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) tallied the RBI.
The Profs got on the scoreboard with two runs in the first inning. Phillips led off with a single and stole second. He went to third on Oliver's single to left field and continued home on an error. Oliver scored on a sacrifice fly by Strickland. The Profs were ahead 6-0 after four runs in the fifth. Todd and Myers produced back-to-back singles. Golla drove in Todd with a bunt single. Myers and Golla both came home on sac flies by Oliver and Mendel respectively. Strickland reached base because of an error and Phillips crossed the plate.
Rowan was up 9-0 after one run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh. Hughes scored on Myers' sac bunt in the sixth. Jolly and Strickland both registered RBI base hits in the seventh. Stockton's lone run came in the eighth. Campbell scored Gustites with a sacrifice fly.
The Profs racked up four more runs in the ninth. Todd and Myers each singled in one run. Gallo doubled home Todd while Myers scored on a fielder's choice.
