Hofbauer's Goal In Final Minute Gives Women's Lacrosse An 8-7 Win Over Stockton In NJAC Opener

Box Score GALLOWAY, NJ – Rowan University attack Rachel Hofbauer scored on a free position shot with 43-seconds left to give the women's lacrosse team an 8-7 win at Stockton University in its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener.
 
Stockton tied the game at seven on a goal by attack Sarah Frankovic (fr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) with 5:11 to play in the second half. Rowan won the ensuing draw and maintained possession. Hofbauer (jr. Totowa, NJ/Wayne Valley) was fouled and issued a free position attempt, which she converted for the game-winner.
 
The Profs are 7-4 overall. The Ospreys have a record of 10-2 and they are 1-1 in the NJAC. Rowan goalie Erin Horner (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) made four saves. Stockton goalie Mary Stornes (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) stopped eight shots.
 
Attack Maddie Bray (fr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) and Hofbauer scored two goals apiece. Midfielder Taylor Gretz (fr. Woolwich Twp., NJ/Kingsway Reg.) collected one goal, one assist, six ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover. Defender Giselle Cortes (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken), attack Danielle Hubbs (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and midfielder Nicole Mickendrow (so. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) each recorded one goal. Defender/midfielder Kelly O'Brien (jr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) controlled five draws.
 
For Stockton, Frankovic accumulated three goals and one assist. Midfielder Lauren Ivancich (sr. Beach Haven, NJ/Southern Reg.) scored three times. Midfielder Skyler Mahoney-Kendra (sr. Tinton Falls, NJ/St. John Vianney) had one goal.
 
Gretz gave Rowan a 1-0 lead with 26:46 remaining in the first half. Ivancich tied the game at the 7:03 mark on a free position shot. The Profs then tallied the next three goals, one each by Mickendrow (13:08), Cortes (18:24) and Hoftbauer (24:01) for a 4-1 lead. Frankovic hit the back of the net with 3:44 remaining and the halftime score was 4-2.
 
Hubbs made it 5-2 with 27:55 on the clock in the second half. The Ospreys scored three unanswered goals to tie the game (5-5) at the 35:47 mark. Ivancich tallied two and Frankovic had one. Bray gave Rowan the lead back (37:04), but Mahoney-Kendra tied the score at six (50:56). Bray scored again (53:30), but Frankovic knotted the game at seven (54:49).
 
Rowan hosts Montclair State University on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. for Alumni Day.
