Box Score HAVERFORD, PA – The Rowan University baseball team won 7-4 at Haverford College on Wednesday afternoon.
First baseman
Steven Todd (sr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) contributed with two hits, a double and one RBI. Catcher
Greg Myers (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) registered two hits and scored two runs. Right fielder
Bret Phillips (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) went two for four with one RBI and two runs. Shortstop
Jason Clapper (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and third baseman
Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) each added one RBI.
Rookie
Eric Shugars (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) was the winning pitcher. The right-hander threw 5.2 innings for his second victory (2-0) on the season. Righty
Brad Machinski (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) earned the save. Pitcher Grant Finn (sr. Escondido, CA/Escondido) took the loss on the mound.
The Profs improve to 8-9 overall and the Fords have a 9-4 record. Shortstop Ben Furlong (so. Washington, DC/Georgetown Prep) led Haverford with three hits, two doubles, two RBIs and one run. First baseman Ben Verducci (jr. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) was two for four with one RBI. Second baseman Zach Taylor (sr. Vista, CA/Vista) tallied two hits and one run.
Rowan took the lead 5-4 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Phillips singled home second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and later crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The Profs added two insurance runs in the ninth. Center fielder
Shane Brown (jr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon Reg.) scored on a ground out by Hughes. Jolly had a RBI single that brought Clapper home.
Haverford scored all four of its runs in the second inning. The Profs' come back started with two runs in the third. Todd produced a double down the right field line, scoring Phillips and Myers followed on an error. Myers scored on Clapper's ground out in the fifth inning.
