Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, FL – The Rowan University baseball team split a doubleheader against fifth ranked Wis.-La Crosse. The Eagles won the opener, 8-3 and the Profs took the nightcap, 3-1.
Right-hander Jameson Lavery was the winning pitcher in the first game. He (2-0) went six innings, scattered six hits and struck out eight batters. Right-hander
Rob Grilli (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) took the loss.
Right fielder Taylor Kohlwey and left fielder Carter Hoffman each had two hits for the Eagles. First baseman Justin Anderson contributed with one hit. Shortstop Travis Buxton-Verstegen had two hits (three at bats), a double, one RBI and two runs.
The Profs' three runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning. First baseman
Steven Todd (Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) and right fielder
Nick Gallo (jr. Sewell, NJ/Paul VI) scored on an error. Center fielder
Shane Brown (jr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon Reg.) came home on a ground out by second baseman
Evan Hughes (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont).
Righty
Eric Shugars (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) posted the win on the mound in the second contest. In seven innings, he only gave up five hits and one run. Lefty Troy Kenkel was the losing pitcher. Rowan is 6-7 on the season while Wis.-La Crosse is 5-3 overall.
Third baseman
Matt Jolly (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) recorded a two-run homer. Designated hitter
Monny Strickland (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and center fielder
Shane Brown (jr. Annandale, NJ/North Hunterdon Reg.) each registered two hits. Hughes added one hit and one RBI.
Hughes put Rowan up 1-0 with a RBI single in the first inning. He drove in left fielder
Eric Oliver (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) who got on base with a walk. The Profs scored two runs in the sixth and the Eagles had one in the bottom half. Jolly homered to left field, scoring Hughes.
Rowan travels to Lakeland on Friday, March 18 for a game against Endicott College at 11 a.m.
