Box Score EWING, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team defeated conference opponent The College of New Jersey, 12-4 on Thursday afternoon.
Right-hander
Johnny Dunn (sr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) threw 6.1 innings for the win on the mound. He (1-2) allowed four earned runs on nine hits. Pitcher Evan Edelman (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) took the loss. In 6.1 innings, he (2-2) surrendered 12 hits and 10 runs, six earned.
The Profs are 16-7 overall and 5-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Lions have an 8-10 record with a 1-4 conference mark.
Catcher
Greg Myers (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) led Rowan with three hits (five bats), a triple, three RBIs and one run. First baseman
Steven Todd (jr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) and center fielder
Nick Kreiger (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each drove in two runs and scored twice. Todd collected three hits and one double. Kreiger registered a triple. Third baseman
Kevin McMenamin (sr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) recorded two doubles and crossed the plate one time.
Second baseman
Mike Ras (jr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) produced a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop
Evan Hughes (jr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) chipped in with two hits and one run while right fielder
Ryan Pavlik (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) had one RBI.
For TCNJ, shortstop Anthony Cocuzza (sr. Absecon, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) was three-for-four with three RBIs and one run. Center fielder John Rizzi (jr. Long Hill, NJ/Watchung Hills Reg.) scored three runs. Left fielder Garen Turner (jr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) had two hits and right fielder Pat Roberts (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) drove in one run.
In the first inning, Todd knocked in the Profs' first run and Kreiger singled in the second. TCNJ got on the board with a RBI base hit by Cocuzza in the bottom half. Rowan was ahead 7-1 after five runs in the third. Designated hitter
Casey Grimes (sr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro), McMenamin and Todd all scored on errors. Kreiger came home on a fielder's choice and Ras followed on a passed ball.
The Lions had their second run in the fourth. Rowan tacked on three more runs in the seventh and TCNJ had two, which made the score 10-4. The Profs had their last two runs in the ninth inning. Myers' triple down the right field line scored Ras who led off with a double. Pavlik grounded out and Myers scored.
Rowan plays The College of New Jersey again on Monday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m. in Glassboro.
