Box Score AUBURNDALE, FL – The Rowan University baseball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 5-3 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Sunday evening.
The 23
rd-ranked Profs even their record at 3-3 while the Eagles are 1-1. Right-hander Ryan Easterday (sr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) went seven innings for the victory (1-1). He allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits and struck out six. Righty Corey Feigenbaum (jr. West Orange, NJ/West Orange) pitched the ninth for his first save. Right-handed pitcher Shane Adler (sr. Cross Plains, WI/Middleton) suffered the loss (0-1).
Designated hitter Casey Grimes (sr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) went two-for-five with one run scored and one batted in. Left fielder Monny Strickland (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) recorded a double and a RBI and scored one time. Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) and second baseman Johnny Dunn (sr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) both knocked in a run. Center fielder Nick Kreiger (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan), third baseman Kevin McMenamin (sr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and first baseman Steven Todd (jr. Millstone Twp., NJ/Allentown) crossed the plate one time apiece. McMenamin also had a double.
Wisconsin-La Crosse first baseman Justin Anderson (jr. Minnetonka, MN/West Lutheran) had three hits (five at bats) and two RBIs. Center fielder Bryce Barsness (sr. Black Earth, WI/Wisconsin Heights) drove in two runs. Shortstop Alex Cordova (jr. Merrill, WI/Merrill) registered a double and scored a run. Second baseman Travis Buxton-Verstegen (jr. Appleton, WI/East) plated one run.
The Eagles struck first in the second on a RBI single by Barsness. Rowan responded with five unanswered runs. Strickland hit a RBI double and Pavlik brought home a run with a groundout in the third. Dunn singled in a run in the fourth. In the fifth, Grimes recorded a run-scoring single and McMenamin came home on a wild pitch. Wisconsin-La Crosse cut the deficit to three (5-2) in the bottom half on Buxton-Verstegen's sacrifice fly. The Eagles made it a two-run game in the eighth after a sac fly by Barsness.
The Profs' next contest is on Monday, March 16 at 10 a.m. versus #8 University of Southern Maine in Winter Haven, FL.
