Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The #6 Rowan University baseball team fell to York College (PA), 8-4 in the final home game of the season on Thursday afternoon.
The Profs have a record of 32-9 and the Spartans' mark is 27-13. Right-handed pitcher Dan Gurganus (jr. Prince Frederick, MD/Huntingtown) earned the victory. He (7-1) threw 7.1 innings and allowed four runs, two earned on seven hits. Righty Corey Feigenbaum (so. West Orange, NJ/West Orange) suffered the loss in relief. He (2-1) pitched 0.2 innings and gave up two runs, one earned and one hit.
Left fielder Brad Wenzel (sr. Blandon, PA/Fleetwood Area) hit a homer. Third baseman Scott Steffy (fr. Downingtown, PA/Downingtown E.) recorded one hit and two RBIs. Shortstop Colin Porter (sr. Hanover, PA/South Western) drew two walks and scored twice.
For Rowan, first baseman Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) went two for three with a double and two runs scored. Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) had two hits in four at bats and drove in two runs. Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) scored once and had one RBI.
Designated hitter Eric Sellitto (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored the first run of the game in the third inning on a fielder's choice by Williams. The Profs added two more in the sixth. McMenamin registered a RBI ground out and center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) had a run scoring single. York totaled five runs in the eighth inning to take the lead. Two runs crossed the plate on an error and Wenzel hit a three-run homer. Rowan made it 5-4 in the bottom of the inning when McMenamin produced a RBI base hit. The Spartans plated three insurance runs in the ninth. Steffy produced a two-run single and center fielder Andrew Hershey (sr. Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) recorded a RBI ground out.
Rowan travels to Moravian College for its regular season finale on Friday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m.
