Box Score MOOSIC, PA – The second seed Rowan University baseball team was eliminated from the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional after falling to Misericordia University, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional is being held at PNC Field. The Profs end their season with a 33-12 record.
In the first game on Saturday, #7 Wesleyan University (CT) avoided elimination by defeating #8 Haverford College, 6-3. Later on Saturday, #3 Susquehanna University (30-12) plays #4 Baldwin Wallace University (27-18) at 4:30 p.m. The nightcap features Wesleyan (29-12) versus Misericordia (32-14-1) at 7:45 p.m.
The national tournament is double elimination. The winners of the eight regional tournaments advance to the national championship that is scheduled for Friday-Tuesday, May 23-27 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, WI.
Misericordia scored the only run of the game in the fourth. Shortstop Kyle Seawards (fr. Dover, NH/Dover) crossed the plate when center fielder Jeremy DeCotiis (fr. Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) was hit by a pitch. Seawards got on base with a single to center field.
Righty Tim Burek (so. Rensselaer, NY/Rensselaer) earned the victory, hurling eight shutout innings. He (6-2) allowed just four hits and struck out six. Right-hander Ryan Dorosh (so. Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) earned his second save, pitching a perfect ninth. Right-hander Andrew Lysy (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) took the loss. He (2-2) threw seven innings and gave up one run on five hits.
Left fielder Nick Hair (fr. Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) had two hits in four at bats. For Rowan, designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) and left fielder Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each registered a double. Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and second baseman Johnny Dunn (jr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) recorded one hit apiece.
Right-handed pitcher Ryan Easterday (jr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was named to the Mid-Atlantic Regional All-Tournament team. Easterday pitched eight innings, allowing two unearned runs on seven hits in the Profs' 7-2 victory over Wesleyan University (CT) in the first round.
