Women's Lacrosse Defeats Montclair State, 15-4 In The Semifinals Of The NJAC Championship Tournament

Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ – The third seed Rowan University women's lacrosse team defeated the second seed Montclair State University, 15-4 on Thursday night in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
 
Rowan (13-4) advances to the final of the NJAC Championship Tournament. The Profs face the top seed The College of New Jersey (16-1) on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m. The winner earns the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. TCNJ topped the fourth seed Kean University, 20-1 in the other semifinal game. Montclair State has a record of 15-2.
 
Attack Becca Wood (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) led Rowan with five goals. Midfielder Cat Luick (so. Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and attack Rachel Emerson (so. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) recorded four goals apiece. Luick also had one assist. Midfielder Jamie Blondina (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) produced two goals and one assist. Midfielder Brittany Bollendorf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and defender Lauren Callaghan (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) had three and one assist respectively. Callaghan controlled six draws.
 
For Montclair State, midfielder Kasey Maguire (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied two goals. Attack Tierney Conlon (jr. Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) had one goal and two assists, while midfielder Francesca Verrone (fr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) scored once.
 
Rowan goalie Lindsay Barrie (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) recorded 10 saves. Montclair State goalkeeper Alexandra Tepper (so. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) stopped two shots in 27:05 of action. Rebecca Myers (so. River Edge, NJ/River Dell) played the final 32:55 and made three saves. The Profs had 25 shots and collected 20 ground balls. The Red Hawks registered 18 shots and 19 ground balls.
 
Rowan jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the 7:16 mark. Luick scored twice and Blondina and Wood tallied one goal apiece. Verrone put Montclair State on the scoreboard with 17:10 on the clock. Luick recorded a goal from Callaghan for a 5-1 advantage (14:14). Maguire cut the deficit to 5-2 (17:51). The Profs ended the half with three straight goals, for an 8-2 advantage. Blondina, Wood and Luick each hit the back of the net once.
 
Conlon produced the first goal of the second half with 24:56 to play. Emerson then scored two straight goals to extend the margin to 10-3 (38:54). Maguire made the score 10-4 (39:14), then Rowan registered five straight goals to end the game. Wood totaled three goals and Emerson two.
