Baseball Splits Conference Doubleheader at Ramapo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MAHWAH, NJ – The #10 Rowan University baseball team split its conference doubleheader at Ramapo College on Sunday afternoon. The Profs won game one, 9-1 and dropped the second, 4-3.
 
Right-hander Dylan Johannink (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) earned the game one win. Johannink (2-0) threw seven innings and allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Righty Kevin Lee (sr. River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) suffered the loss. He (2-1) pitched 7.1 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and struck out seven.
 
Center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) was three for four with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Outfielders Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) and Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each had two hits in four at bats and scored one run. Designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) recorded two hits, two RBIs and scored one run. Catcher Connor Grant (sr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) drove in three runs and collected two hits.
 
Right fielder Scott Peschiani (jr. Harriman, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) had one hit (two at bats) and scored one run. Third baseman Scott Shields (jr. San Luis Obispo, CA/San Luis Obispo) knocked in one run.
 
The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when Grant drove in two runs with a single. The Profs added six more runs in the eighth. Grimes hit a two-run single and Perez knocked in two runs with a double. Powelson and Grant followed with RBI singles. Ramapo tallied its run in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI fielder's choice by Shields. Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) recorded Rowan's ninth run, scoring when second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) reached on an error.
 
Peschiani led the Roadrunners to the game two victory, going two for three with a run scored and one RBI. Left fielder Kevin Kelly (jr. Columbia, NJ/North Warren) had two hits in four at bats. Catcher Chris Werr (jr. Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock) had two RBIs.
 
Grimes hit two doubles and knocked in one run. Benak recorded one hit, scored one run and had two RBIs. Pavlik tallied two hits. Rowan has an overall mark of 15-5 and it is 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ramapo is 12-7 overall and has a conference record of 2-3.
 
Right-hander Walker Larson (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) pitched a complete game for Ramapo. He (2-2) gave up three runs, all unearned on six hits and had six strikeouts. Righty Matt Nelson (jr. Allentown, PA/Parkland) took the loss. Nelson (1-1) threw 6.2 innings and allowed four runs, three earned on seven hits.
 
Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single by Peschiani. Werr gave the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage, hitting a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Ramapo added two more runs in the seventh. Garcia hit a sacrifice fly and Shields scored when Werr was hit by a pitch. Rowan scored its three runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Benak and a RBI double by Grimes.
 
Rowan hosts York College (PA) on Tuesday, April 8 at 4 p.m.
