Box Score UNION, NJ – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team won its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener, 18-4 at Kean University on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs are 7-2 overall and the Cougars have a 6-4 mark. It was the first NJAC game for both teams. Rowan goalie Lindsay Barrie (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped eight shots. Kean goalkeeper Daniella Wagenti (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) had six saves. The Profs recorded 31 shots and 24 ground balls. The Cougars had 14 shots and collected 16 ground balls.
Attack Becca Wood (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) led Rowan with five goals. Midfielder Brittany Bollendorf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored four times and had one assist. Midfielders Jamie Blondina (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and Cat Luick (so. Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) each produced three goals. Blondina also had two assists. Midfielders Kelly O'Brien (fr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) and Jess Casterline (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and attack Marissa Micciche (sr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) tallied one goal apiece. O'Brien and Micciche each added one assist.
Midfielder Ciara Mastrodomenico (sr. Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) scored twice and had one assist for Kean. Attacks Meghan Schneck (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.) and Julie Knodt (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had one goal apiece.
Rowan scored seven unanswered goals in the first 14:46 of the game. Wood had three goals, while Blondina, Bollendorf, Micciche and Luick each had one. Mastrodomenico produced two goals (17:55 and 24:48), cutting the deficit to 7-2. Wood collected her fourth goal of the game with 2:04 left in the first half for an 8-2 score.
The Profs tallied three straight to begin the second half. Casterline (31:30), Luick (32:08) and Bollendorf (35:25) scored one apiece. Knodt made the score 11-3 (38:03), but Rowan hit the back of the net seven times in a row for an 18-3 advantage (50:13). Schneck capped off the scoring with 6:48 to play.
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m.
