Box Score 2 Highlight Video 1 Highlight Video 2GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team won two games over New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponent Rutgers-Newark, 10-6 and 23-7 on Saturday.
The Profs improve to 18-6 overall and 7-3 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raiders are 9-19 overall with a 3-7 conference mark.
Right-hander Ryan Easterday (jr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) got the win in game one. He (3-0) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. Corey Feigenbaum (so. West Orange, NJ/West Orange) recorded the final out to earn his first save. Chris Nichols (so. North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) suffered the loss. He (1-3) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up nine runs, six earned on eight hits.
Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) was three for five with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. First baseman Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) had two hits (four at bats), a double and knocked in a run. Pinch hitter/second baseman Johnny Dunn (jr. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) drove in two runs, while center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge), designated hitter Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and catcher Connor Grant (sr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) recorded one RBI apiece. Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) scored twice and outfielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.), left fielder Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan), Perez, Powelson and Grant all crossed the plate one time.
For Rutgers-Newark, outfielder Nick Striglia (fr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went two for two with three RBIs. Infielder Jeff Reinecke (fr. Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) and outfielder Jason McCluskey (jr. Woodland Park, NJ/Passaic Valley) each had one RBI and one run scored.
Rowan jumped out to a 10-0 lead after six innings. Two runs crossed in the second on RBI singles by Powelson and Grant. Grimes doubled home Williams in the third and Williams scored Pavlik with a double in the fifth before coming home on an error. The Profs scored four times in the sixth. Perez had a run-scoring single and crossed the plate on an error. Williams singled in Grant before Dunn had a two-run base hit. The Scarlet Raiders scored twice in the eighth and four times in the ninth.
Lefty Ryan Sharkey (jr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Mary) had the victory in the nightcap. He (3-0) hurled six innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits and striking out four. Rafael Totesautt (fr. Weehawken, NJ/Weehawken) was the losing pitcher. He (0-2) gave up eight runs in 1.1 innings.
Williams, Grimes and Powelson knocked in three runs apiece while Grant had two RBIs. Perez had four runs scored. Williams and Powelson both scored three times. Pinch hitter/left fielder Scott Bruno (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.), Pavlik, Grimes and Dunn all crossed the plate twice.
First baseman Vin Troisi (sr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) and outfielder Cameron Dias (so. Madison, NJ/Madison) each went three for five with a run scored and one RBI for the Scarlet Raiders. Right fielder/pitcher Jimmy Napolitano (sr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) had two hits (four at bats) with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
