Box Score CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team edged conference opponent Rutgers-Camden, 3-2 on Friday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 16-6 overall and 5-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Scarlet Raptors are 15-7-1 with a 5-3 NJAC mark.
Right-hander Dylan Johannink (jr. Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) went 7.1 innings to earn the victory. He (3-0) allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out nine. Righty Nick Henderson (sr. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn his first save. Left-handed pitcher Chris Scarlett (so. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) suffered the loss (2-1), giving up two unearned runs and three hits. He had four strikeouts.
Catcher Connor Grant (sr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) had a double and two RBIs for the Profs. Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca), center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) and first baseman Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) each contributed with one hit and scored a run.
For Rutgers-Camden, second baseman Joe Sigismondi (so. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) had two hits (three at bats), a double and one RBI. Catcher Jon Theckston (fr. Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went two for three with a run scored. Right fielder Adrian Gonzalez (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) produced a double and scored one time. Shortstop Tim Holder (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) knocked in a run.
Rowan got on the board in the first inning when Williams scored on a wild pitch. Grant made it 2-0 in the fourth with a RBI double that brought Perez home. Both runs were unearned. Holder had a sacrifice bunt in the fifth that allowed Gonzalez to cross the plate and the score was 2-1. Grant drove in Powelson with a sacrifice fly in the sixth for a 3-1 lead. Rutgers-Camden got within one after a RBI double by Sigismondi in the bottom half.
