Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team fell to conference opponent Rutgers-Camden, 11-9 on Thursday afternoon.
The Scarlet Raptors improve to 15-6-1 overall with a 5-2 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Profs are 15-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Left-hander Ron Reagan (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) went seven innings to earn the win. He (5-1) allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out five. Righty Andrew Lysy (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) suffered the loss. He (1-1) gave up five runs and eight hits in 2.1 innings.
For Rutgers-Camden, first baseman Connor Hall (jr. Delran, NJ/Delran) was four for four with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored. Shortstop Tim Holder (fr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had four hits (five at bats), two RBIs and scored once. Designated hitter Joe Brooks (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was three for five with one RBI and two runs scored. Second baseman Joe Sigismondi (so. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.), left fielder Doug Carter (fr. Union, NJ/Union) and pinch hitter Adam Bartholomew (jr. Haddon Heights, NJ/Bishop Eustace) each drove in a run. Sigismondi crossed the plate one time, while third baseman Brett Tenuto (so. Audubon, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and right fielder Adrian Gonzalez (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored twice.
Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) went four for five, knocked in four runs and scored twice for Rowan. Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) had two hits (four at bats) with three runs scored. Second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) had two RBIs apiece. Designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) crossed the plate once and had one RBI. Left fielder Eric Sellitto (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and catcher Connor Grant (sr. Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) had one and two runs scored respectively.
The Scarlet Raptors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Brooks, Carter and Holder all had RBI singles. Grimes had a RBI groundout in the first for the Profs. Sigismondi doubled in Tenuto in the second and Holder scored Hall with a single in the third for a 5-1 advantage. Both teams tallied one run in the fifth. Rutgers-Camden put up two runs in the seventh. Hall led off with a solo homer and Holder scored on an error. Rowan responded with three in the bottom half. Williams tripled home Pavlik and Grant and scored on a groundout by Benak. Hall blasted a three-run shot in the eighth before the Profs closed the game with four runs in the ninth. Williams notched a two-run single and McMenamin plated two with a double.
Rowan and Rutgers-Camden will meet again in Camden on Friday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m.
