Box Score HAVERFORD, PA – The Rowan University baseball team defeated Haverford College, 11-8 on Thursday afternoon.

Right-handed pitcher Brad Machinski (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) earned the victory. Machinski (1-1) pitched six innings of relief and allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four. Righty Max Gerard (jr. Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor) suffered the loss, pitching one inning out of the bullpen. He (0-1) allowed two runs, one earned on two hits. Rowan has an overall record of 11-3 and Haverford's mark is 7-7.

Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) went three for five with a double and scored three runs for the Profs. Designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) had two hits in three at bats, scored two runs and knocked one in. Second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield), center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) and left fielder Nick Kreiger (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each recorded two hits. Benak had a homer, scored twice and had two RBIs. Perez collected two RBIs and Kreiger scored two runs. Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) recorded one hit, one run scored and two RBIs.

For the Fords, first baseman Justin Coulter (sr. Bethesda, MD/St. Albans School) was two for five, scored a run and had a RBI. Left fielder Mike Tentilucci (jr. Newtown, PA/Council Rock N.) was two for three with a run scored. Catcher Nick Ott (so. Naples, FL/Community School of Naples) hit a double, knocked in three runs and scored two. Designated hitter Thomas Vollaro (fr. Herndon, VA/Herndon) produced two RBIs.

Rowan took the lead with three runs in the first. Benak hit a two-run homer and Perez had a RBI single. Haverford then scored six times in the bottom half, which included a three RBI double by Ott and a double that scored two runs by Vollaro. The Profs responded with a four-spot in the second. Williams reached on an error that scored Pavlik and Kreiger. Grimes singled to drive in a run and Benak scored an unearned run.

Haverford made the score 7-7, plating an unearned run in the seventh. Rowan added two more in the eighth on a RBI single by Williams and Pavlik crossed the plate on an error. Shortstop William Bannard (sr. Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's School) then knocked in a run on a RBI ground out in the bottom of the eighth, cutting the lead to 9-8. The Profs added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth as Grimes scored on a wild pitch and first baseman Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) singled in a run.

Rowan opens its conference schedule on Saturday, March 29 with a doubleheader at Ramapo College at 11:30 a.m.
