Baseball Shuts Out Stevens, 3-0

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The #10 Rowan University baseball team shut out Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-0 on Sunday.
 
Left-handed pitcher Ryan Sharkey (jr. Rutherford, NJ/St. Mary) earned the victory, throwing eight innings. Sharkey (2-0) scattered four hits and recorded four strikeouts. Righty Ryan Easterday (jr. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save. Right-hander Jayson Yano (so. Foothill Ranch, CA/El Toro) took the loss. Yano (1-1) pitched 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out seven.
 
Rowan's overall record is 10-2 and Stevens has an 8-4 mark. Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) each had two hits and scored one run. Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) recorded a single and one RBI. First baseman Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) went two for four with a RBI.
 
Yano had two hits in four at bats for the Ducks. Right fielder Brian Hennelly (jr. Holbrook, NY/Sachem N.) and catcher Curt Lowenstien (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) produced one hit apiece.
 
Rowan took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a  RBI single by Pavlik that scored Perez. The Profs added their second run in the sixth when designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) crossed the plate on a wild pitch. In the eighth, Rowan tacked on an insurance run as Powelson drove in McMenamin with a single.
 
The Profs return to action on Monday, March 24 at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to face Penn State Abington.
