Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Richard Stockton College men's basketball team had a 75-72 win over Rowan University on Wednesday night in the last game of the regular season.
Guards Rich Suhr (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), James Williams (jr. Englewood, NJ/Englewood), Rameel Johnson (sr. Newark, NJ/Science Park) and forward Josh Blamon (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) all contributed with 13 points. Blamon and Johnson each grabbed six rebounds. Forward Nnamdi Usuwa (sr. Avenel, NJ/Colonia) chipped in with 10 points while guard Kevin Johnson (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro) added seven points and five boards.
The Ospreys are 21-4 overall and 15-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Richard Stockton will be the top seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament, which starts on Saturday, February 22. The Profs end the year with a 12-13 record and a 7-11 conference mark.
Rowan guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) recorded a season-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. McNamara finished his career with 1,176 points and 14th on the school's all-time scoring list. Guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) produced 15 points while forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) totaled 14 points and eight rebounds. Guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) registered nine points and eight boards.
The Ospreys had a 17-point lead (44-27) after Blamon's layup at 16:59 in the second stanza. McDaniels hit a three at 14:30 to cut the deficit to 10 (46-36). Rameel Johnson's basket at 11:24 made the score 55-43. Kevin Johnson had two points at the line (7:52) and Richard Stockton was ahead by 13 (62-49). Blamon nailed a three-pointer at 6:59 and the Ospreys led 65-52. Rowan scored six straight points to pull within seven (65-58) with 6:25 remaining. McNamara contributed with four and Sofman had two. Usuwa put the Ospreys up by nine (69-60) with a layup at 5:06. The Profs pulled with two (69-67) with a 7-0 run. McNamara scored three points while guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) and Sofman each had two. Williams made a basket (3:22), Sofman followed with two foul shots (1:48) and Rowan was down by two (71-69). The Ospreys sealed the victory with four of five free throws in the last minute of the game.
Suhr's layup put Richard Stockton ahead 9-4 at 15:31 in the first half. O'Connor made a free throw (15:17), Sofman had a basket (15:12) and Rowan trailed by two (9-7). The Ospreys followed with a 15-4 run for a 13 point advantage (24-11). Williams contributed with six points and Rameel Johnson scored four. Suhr hit a three-pointer and forward Anthony Woodard (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) added a layup.
The Profs were down by 11 points (26-15) after Jackson's basket at 7:58. McNamara nailed a three at 3:43 and Richard Stockton led 35-22. With 37 seconds left, McNamara had two foul shots, which made the score 37-25. The Ospreys ended the scoring with a free throw by Kevin Johnson at the five second mark. Richard Stockton had a 13-point advantage (38-25) at the break and was led by Suhr with 13 points. McNamara tallied 11 points for the Profs.
