Football Clinches Share Of NJAC Title With A 14-6 Victory Over The College Of New Jersey

Box Score EWING, NJ – The Rowan University football team defeated The College of New Jersey, 14-6 on Friday night to claim a share of its second consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship.
 
This is the Profs 19th NJAC title. Rowan also earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The NCAA Division III selection show takes place on Sunday, November 16 at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com. It will be the third straight and 16th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Profs.
 
Rowan finishes the regular season with a 7-3 overall mark and a 6-1 record in the NJAC. The Lions end their season with a 2-8 record and they were 1-6 in NJAC play.
 
Rowan running back Withler Marcelin (jr. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) ran the ball 41 times for 217 yards and two touchdowns. It was his third 200-yard game of the season. Quarterback Bill McCarty (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) threw for 30 yards (5-10). Wide receiver Russ Forchion (jr. Clementon, NJ/Hammonton) made three catches for nine yards.
 
Linebacker Vinny Simone (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) made seven tackles, two for a loss (4 yards). Defensive back Eddie Davis (jr. Camden, NJ/Camden) recorded four stops and one interception. Defensive back Jared Sanchez (so. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) tallied three tackles, one for a loss (2 yards) and an interception.
 
TCNJ quarterback Trevor Osler (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) completed 14 passes in 29 attempts for 144 yards. Running back Brad Young (jr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) rushed for 41 yards on eight carries. Tight end Ryan Baranowsky (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Bishop Eustace) made five catches for 45 yards.
 
Linebacker Sean Kley (jr. Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) made 11 tackles. Linebacker Zack Vasilenko (jr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) and safety Martin Flatley (jr. Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) produced nine tackles apiece. Defensive back Matthew Fleck (sr. East Rutherford, NJ/Becton) registered eight tackles, one for a loss (3 yards).
 
Marcelin put Rowan on the scoreboard with a 16-yard touchdown run at the 7:54 mark of the first quarter. The score capped off a six-play, 40-yard drive. Marcelin ran the ball three times for 34 yards. The drive was set-up by the defense after they forced a three and out deep at the Lions' six yard line.
 
Rowan started its second drive of the third quarter on the Lions' 37 yardline following a punt forced by the Profs' defense. Marcelin carried the ball on all seven plays of the 36-yard drive and made the score 14-0 on a four-yard touchdown scamper with 7:32 on the clock.
 
On the third play of the fourth quarter, Osler scored on a one-yard run. The point after attempt was missed and the score was 14-6. TCNJ drove the ball 84 yards in 10 plays. Osler completed five passes for 85 yards in the scoring drive. With 3:12 remaining in the fourth, Davis intercepted a pass that gave the Profs the ball back in Lions' territory. Rowan was then able to run out the clock.
