Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Neumann University, 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The Profs broke the NCAA Division III attendance record with 1,958 fans.
The NCAA Division III record was 1,010 from the NCAA first round when Massachusetts Institute of Technology had a 2-1 win over Nichols College in Dudley, MA (Nov. 11, 2009). Rowan's total surpassed the Division II mark of 1,243 from the 2009 NCAA semifinal in which UMass Lowell defeated Stone Hill College, 2-1 (Nov. 13). The attendance record for all divisions is 2,381. That mark was set when the University of Maryland won 3-2 against the University of North Carolina in the NCAA final on November 21, 2010 in College Park, MD.
Rowan improves to 4-4 overall while Neumann drops to 2-6 on the season. Midfielder Sam Browne (so. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) led the way with four goals and one assist. Forward Courtney Aquino (fr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) contributed with two goals. Forward Kellie Campbell (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) registered one goal and two assists.
Forwards Amy McKeever (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), Allison DiMenna (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Johanna James (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) all added one goal. Midfielder Marisa Marini (so. Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) and forward Karlee Henderson (jr. Elmer, NJ/Woodstown) had one assist apiece.
For Neumann, forwards Lindsey Spatola (jr. Patchogue, NY/National Sports Academy) and Alexa McIntyre (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) each scored one goal. Goalie Becca Wallace (fr. Linthicum, MD/Seton Keough) stopped 11 shots in 43:40 and goalie Nicole Glavin (so. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) played 26:20. The Profs compiled 29 shots while the Knights had nine.
Goalies Steph Colombo (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic), Kim Pyhel (fr. Chatham, NJ/Chatham) and Maura Trotman (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) shared the duties in the Rowan cage. Pyhel made three saves and Colombo had one.
