Field Hockey Comes From Behind To Defeat Stevenson, 5-3

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team came from behind to defeat Stevenson University, 5-3 on Thursday night at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.

The Profs trailed 3-1 then forward Kellie Campbell (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) cut the deficit to one at 21:39.  Campbell hit the cage with a pass from forward/midfielder Jenna O'Sullivan (jr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.).

Forward Johanna James (so. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) produced the tying goal as she tapped in a rebound at 41:03.  Forward Allison DiMenna (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) put the Profs ahead at 49:56 when she hit the lower left corner with a cross from the right side by forward Jenna Pressler (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee).  Midfielder Marisa Marini (so. Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) recorded the final goal (60:58) with a blasting shot from inside the top of the circle.

Rowan has a 3-2 record while Stevenson is 5-3 overall.  This week, the Profs were ranked 18th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll.  Goalie Kim Pyhel (fr. Chatham, NJ/Chatham) played 50:07 in Rowan's cage and had two saves for her first collegiate win.  For Stevenson, goalies Katie Cavanaugh (so. Parkville, MD/Perry Hill) and Gabriella Brooks (fr. Bel Air, MD/Patterson Mill) had four and five stops respectively. 

Pressler started the scoring at 9:49 with an unassisted goal.  Stevenson answered with two goals by forward Caitlin Dempsey (jr. Fallston, MD/Fallston) at 12:11 and 15:08.  Her first one was assisted by forward Alison Kagel (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.).  Forward Amy Tamarana (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River) made the score 3-1 at 19:51.  She hit the back of the goal with a shot after a corner with a pass from back Alyssa Russell (sr. Towson, MD/Loch Raven).

Next, Rowan travels to Eastern University on Saturday, September 21 for an 11 a.m. game.
