Brigham Nets Five as Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Eastern, 16-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Ellen Brigham scored five goals to lead the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team in a 16-0 win over Eastern University on Saturday afternoon at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.

With their fourth-straight victory, the Profs improve to 10-5 on the season while the Eagles fall to 1-14 overall.  Brigham (sr. Oakton, VA/Oakton) paced Rowan with five goals as attack Becca Wood (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) posted four. Midfielders Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and Jess Casterline (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) each added two goals and attacks Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Caitlin Ravel (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Julia Boccanfuso (so. Oradell, NJ/River Dell Reg.) had one apiece. Picking up her seventh win of the season was goalkeeper Lindsay Barrie (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) with two saves.  Goalkeeper Cortney Andes (fr. Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) was made six saves for the Eagles.

Rowan held an advantage in the shot department, 25-3, and controlled 12 of the 16 draws. The Profs also had the edge in ground balls, 24-13 and held Eastern to 11-of-17 on clear attempts.

Rowan got started early as Brigham, Wood and Blondina all scored one goal in the first two minutes of action. With the three-goal lead, Rowan put together a five-goal spurt that lasted from 23:47 to 18:23 as Brigham and Wood each tallied two more and Sucharski had one to make the score 8-0. From there, the Profs added four more to take a commanding 12-0 lead into the break.

Casterline started the second half, scoring her first goal of the season at 28:22. Boccanfuso followed up at 24:32 to net her first of the year and opened the lead to 14-0. Closing out the game, Casterline added one more and Ravel had one to finalize the score at 16-0.

To finish out the regular season, Rowan will host Montclair State University on Wednesday, May 1 for senior night at 7 p.m.
