WASHINGTON, DC – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated Catholic University, 16-11 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

The Profs are 9-5 overall while the Cardinals are 7-9 on the season.  Attack Becca Wood (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) led the way with nine goals and one assist. Attack Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) totaled three goals and one assist.  Midfielder Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) contributed with two goals and two assists.  

Attack Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and midfielder Brittany Bollendorf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) each chipped in with a goal.  Profs’ goalie Lindsay Barrie (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped 15 shots.  For the Cardinals, Tricia Pehnke (so. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made eight saves.  Rowan and Catholic each totaled 29 shots.  The Profs registered 19 draw controls while the Cardinals had nine. 

Attack Lindsay Brophy (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) led Catholic with five goals.  Defender Caroline DiBartolomeo (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) hit the net two times while midfielders Madeline Nowakowski (fr. Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Theresa Ciletti (jr. Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) and attacks Erin Fowler (jr. Wilmington, NC/J.T. Hoggard) and Emily Downs (fr. Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) each had one goal.  Attacks Katie Miller (sr. Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) and Mary Clare Regan (fr. Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) and midfielder Rebecca Arent (fr. Stonybrook, NY/Ward Melville) added one assist apiece.

In the first half, DiBartolomeo scored two straight goals, which tied the score at two just under the 12-minute mark.  Micciche and Wood followed with one goal piece for a 4-2 advantage.  Nowakowski scored at 14:53 to pull the Cardinals within one.  The Profs led 6-3 after Wood and Sucharski each hit the net.  Brophy scored twice and Catholic trailed by one (7-6).  Wood ended the period with two more goals and a 9-6 lead at the break.

The second stanza started with two goals from Wood, which made the score 11-6 at 34:15.  Rowan had four unanswered goals to push the advantage to eight (15-7) at 48:03.  Wood scored twice while Sucharski and Blondina each had one goal.  Catholic had a 4-0 run of its own and trailed 15-11 with 25 seconds left.  Fowler, Brophy, Ciletti and Downs all produced one goal.  Blondina scored the final goal at the three-second mark with a free position shot.

Next, Rowan hosts Eastern University on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
