GLASSBORO, NJ – The seventh ranked The College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 16-7, on Tuesday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
 
The Lions improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in the conference. The Profs’ five-game winning streak was snapped as they are now 5-4 and 1-1 in the NJAC.

TCNJ was led by attack Jillian Nealon (sr. Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterton Central) with five goals and midfielder Lauren Pigott (jr. Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) with four. Attack Jen Garavente (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) chipped in with three. Midfielders Erin Healy (so. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) and Lauren Karpovich (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and attacks Erin Waller (so. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) and  Alex Spark (sr. Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Reg.) each had one.
 
For Rowan, midfielder Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and attack Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each hit the net twice. Attacks Lauren Pereen (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and Becca Wood (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) all scored one apiece.
 
TCNJ edged the Profs in the shot department, 26-22.  Goalie Kelsey Zinck (jr. Bristow, VA/James W. Robinson) made six saves for the Lions and goalie Lindsay Barrie (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped five shots for the Profs. 
 
The Lions used the first 15 minutes of action to take a five goal lead but Blondina and Pereen each scored to bring the Profs within three in the 14th minute. After two more TCNJ goals, Rowan answered with a 4-1 run in the final eight minutes of the first half to cut the deficit to 8-6 heading into the break.
 
TCNJ proved to be too much in the second half as it outscored the Profs 8-1 with Sucharski scoring the last Rowan goal in the final minute, making the end result 16-7.
 
The Profs will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Thursday, May 4 for a 4 p.m. start.
